Rob Fiorino,
drummer and percussionist
Born: New York, New York
Home: Denver, CO
Sophisticated, complex rhythm and primal energy are
foundations of the symphonic sound carpet laid down by drummer Rob
Fiorino. Descendant of a long line of musicians, Rob's earliest
musical awakenings were through the symphonic works of Beethoven,
Tchaikovsky, and Stravinsky - the great masters who invented "power
chords". The Kinks' earliest hits, distinguished by chunky,
bluesy power chords, and the horn-section driven Paul Butterfield
Blues Band, inspired Rob to become a musician. His fascination
with the drum kit is derived from the drums' incredible dynamic
range, imbued with the tonal qualities, color variations, and
forcefulness of a full symphony orchestra.
His influences
include the work of Mitch Mitchell with Jimi Hendrix, Ginger Baker
of Cream, Lenny White of Return to Forever, Danny Seraphine of
Chicago, Tony Williams, and John Bonham. A self-taught musician,
Rob has developed a truly unique style all his own. His drumming
displays the sensibilities of a jazz musician, and brings
unbridled emotion, soulfulness, and hair-raising power to The
Blues Shop.
Although the blues
has always been closest to his heart and soul, throughout his
career Rob has displayed impressive versatility in his performance
of a wide variety of music. He's traveled extensively and has
shared stages - including world-famous Redrocks - with The Doobie
Brothers, Credence Clearwater Revisited, Blue Oyster Cult, Tab
Benoit, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Firefall, Toby Keith, Boz
Scaggs, and Leon Russell.
A premier soloist,
Rob's creative, potent and lyrical drum solos never fail to
captivate and astonish each and every member of the audience.
